Memorable MP visit for Collingtree Primary School

Pupils at Collingtree Primary School, part of the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust (PDET), were delighted to welcome Mike Reader, MP for Northampton South, to the school this term.
Mr Reader spoke to all pupils during a whole-school assembly before spending time with Hawthorn Class, who are preparing for their upcoming visit to the Houses of Parliament in March.
The children came armed with thoughtful questions. These included, “Why is it called the Houses of Parliament?”, “How many meetings do you go to each year?” and “Why do you want to work in Parliament?”
Pupils of all ages impressed with their confidence and curiosity. One Reception child even asked if Northampton could “have more bridges” - a question that raised smiles across the hall!
The visit ended on a high note with Year 6 pupils tackling big national issues. One pupil even asked what is being done about inflation, sparking a lively and mature discussion.
Rebecca Osborne, Headteacher, said: “We would like to thank Mr Reader and his team for taking the time to visit and for helping to bring learning about government, politics and democracy to life. It was a memorable morning and our Hawthorn pupils are truly excited to visit the Houses of Parliament and continue their learning on this topic.”
Mr Reader added: "The quality of learning I witnessed at the school was top notch. I loved the chance to answer questions from children and I found the range of ideas and perspectives really interesting. Thank you to the school for hosting such a fulfilling visit".
